Golden Mountain Doodles
Golden Mountain Doodles bring together Golden Retriever, Bernese Mountain Dog, and Poodle ancestry. At Selah Mountain Dogs, our Golden Mountain Doodles are produced by pairing a carefully selected Bernedoodle with a carefully selected Goldendoodle.
We plan each pairing with the individual parents in mind. Temperament, health testing, size, coat traits, pedigree, and compatibility are more informative than the name of the cross alone, and every puppy remains an individual.
What Is a Golden Mountain Doodle?
A Golden Mountain Doodle is a Doodle cross with Golden Retriever, Bernese Mountain Dog, and Poodle ancestry. Because breeding programs and parent generations can differ, there is no single combination of traits that describes every Golden Mountain Doodle.
Our Golden Mountain Doodles come from a Bernedoodle parent and a Goldendoodle parent. We share the parents, expected size, anticipated colors, and other pairing-specific information on our Upcoming Litters page.
Temperament and Family Life
The ancestry behind a Golden Mountain Doodle can contribute a broad range of traits. The Goldendoodle side may bring social confidence, human focus, and eagerness to learn, while the Bernese Mountain Dog influence is often valued for deep family bonding and a mellower nature. In some lines, Bernese influence may also be accompanied by greater reserve, independence, stubbornness, or sensitivity. Energy, confidence, and trainability therefore depend greatly on the individual parents and the lines behind them.
We developed our Golden Mountain Doodle program to intentionally balance those qualities. Our goal is to produce human-focused, social, affectionate, and trainable companions that form close bonds with their families, remain emotionally steady, and can enjoy activity while also relaxing at home. We select parents with health, confidence, temperament, and compatibility in mind rather than assuming the breed combination alone will produce those traits.
Our puppies are raised in a home environment with age-appropriate handling, socialization, early learning, and opportunities to practice recovering from normal new experiences. This work supports the qualities we breed toward, but each puppy remains an individual.
Some Golden Mountain Doodles may have the temperament and trainability needed for therapy or service work. However, no puppy can be guaranteed to become a therapy or service dog. Suitability depends on the individual dog's health and temperament, the demands of the work, and the training and development it receives.
Genetics provide a foundation, but a puppy's adult behavior is also shaped by training, socialization, health, experiences, and environment. Families should be prepared to continue consistent training and relationship-building after their puppy goes home.
Size
Golden Mountain Doodles can vary considerably in adult size. The most useful estimate comes from the specific parents, their pedigrees, and any previous puppies from the same or related lines.
We provide an estimated adult size for each planned litter on our Upcoming Litters page. Estimates are intended as guidance, and exact adult height and weight cannot be guaranteed.
Colors and Coats
Golden Mountain Doodles can inherit a wide variety of colors, markings, and coat traits. Depending on the pairing, anticipated colors may include red, black, brown, phantom, merle, abstract, parti, or combinations of these traits.
The colors and coat characteristics expected from one pairing may not be expected from another. We list the anticipated possibilities for each litter, but the number of puppies born and their exact colors, markings, furnishings, coat types, and other characteristics cannot be guaranteed.
Many of our pairings are planned with soft, furnished, wavy or loose-wavy coats in mind. A puppy's coat continues to develop as it matures, so its adult coat and degree of shedding cannot be predicted with complete certainty.
Grooming, Shedding, and Allergies
Golden Mountain Doodles require regular coat care. Families should be prepared for routine brushing and combing, bathing, nail care, and professional grooming to help prevent tangles and matting and to keep the skin and coat healthy.
Shedding varies between individual dogs. Some Golden Mountain Doodles may shed less than their Bernese Mountain Dog or Golden Retriever ancestors, but low shedding cannot be guaranteed.
No dog can be guaranteed to be hypoallergenic or suitable for a person with allergies. If allergies are an important consideration for your household, please discuss them with us before reserving a litter position. We can explain the anticipated coat traits of a pairing, but we cannot guarantee that a puppy will not trigger an allergic reaction.
Health Testing
Golden Mountain Doodles have ancestry from three breeds, so informed breeding decisions require attention to the health considerations relevant to each parent's background.
The parents in our Golden Mountain Doodle pairings complete extensive health testing chosen for the breeds and health risks within each parent's background. Our Goldendoodle breeding program follows GANA Gold Level health-testing standards, while each Bernedoodle parent is evaluated using testing appropriate to its Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle ancestry.
Health testing helps breeders make informed decisions and reduce known risks, but no breeder can guarantee that a dog will never develop a health condition.
